Made in Durham (MID) is a nonprofit partnership that builds Durham’s education-to-career system, connecting young people to family-sustaining careers and strengthening the local workforce.
The BULLS Life Sciences Academy, co-created by Made in Durham and Durham Technical Community College, provides young adults (ages 18–25) with technical training, coaching, and career development to enter high-demand life science careers in the Research Triangle region.
Since 2020, over 200 students have completed the program, earning industry-recognized credentials, securing employment with biomanufacturing firms, and gaining access to long-term economic mobility.
About the Role
We are seeking a Success Coach (Independent Contractor) to support the November 18, 2025- August 12, 2026 BULLS Academy cohorts (13 & 14).
This role provides holistic support to students, including case management and event coordination, throughout the 8.5-month cohort cycle. The Success Coach is a key connector between students, faculty, and community partners, helping participants navigate challenges, access resources, and successfully complete the Academy.
The contractor will report to the Youth Engagement Director and collaborate closely with BULLS program staff and educational partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct weekly one-on-one check-ins with assigned students and document progress in Salesforce and program spreadsheets.
Provide wrap-around support to address barriers such as transportation, childcare, tutoring, and technology access.
Track and disburse student stipends in partnership with MID’s program team.
Assist with planning and facilitation of key program events (Orientation, Study Sessions, Cohort Meetups, Dress to Impress, and Graduation).
Communicate regularly with students via GroupMe, email, and phone; share updates in the weekly Monday newsletter.
Coordinate with community partners, Durham Tech faculty, and other Success Coaches to ensure consistent student support.
Participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly Success Coach team sessions.
Support career development programming, resume workshops, and employer engagement events.
Accurately track hours worked and maintain detailed records of daily activities and services provided.
Prepare a brief monthly summary of coaching activities, events supported, and key student outcomes to accompany each invoice.
Ensure all time and activity documentation aligns with program deliverables and milestone reporting requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. Equivalent experience in coaching, case management, or student support is valued.
Minimum 3 years’ experience supporting youth or adults in educational or workforce programs.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to motivate and build trust with diverse young adults.
Organized and tech-savvy: proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and CRM systems (Salesforce experience preferred).
Must hold a valid NC driver’s license and be willing to travel locally between program sites.
Availability for occasional evenings or weekends tied to program events.
